4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS: City Yards is requested to barricade Harbor Pl. between Madison St. and Clayton St., At 0001 on July 4, 2009. “No Parking, Police Order, violators subject to ticket and tow” signs will also be posted at that time on Harbor Place. Traffic entering the lakefront area for the fireworks display will be allowed to enter from either the Grand Avenue overpass or the Belvidere Street overpass and will be directed into the designated parking areas. No one will be allowed to park on Seahorse Drive or the two overpasses. Temporary “No Parking, Police Order, violators subject to ticket and tow” signs will be posted along all overpasses, the entire length of Seahorse Drive, and Sheridan Road between Belvidere Road and Grand Avenue. Signs are requested to be in place prior to the events of July 4th, 2009.

RELAY FOR LIFE: On Saturday June 27th through Sunday June 28th 2009, the city of Waukegan and the American Cancer Society will host THE WAUKEGAN RELAY FOR LIFE at Bevier Park. This event will consist of approximately 700 people who will participate in an all night Walk-A-Thon to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. This event will begin at 10:00 am (set-up) on Saturday and conclude at 10:00 am on Sunday.

INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE-The Waukegan Park District along with the city of Waukegan is holding its annual Independence Day Parade on Sunday, June 28, 2009. The parade will start at 1:00 pm; staging of participants will begin at 11:00 am. The staging area for the parade will be on Sheridan Rd., from Franklin Street, South to Washington St. Traffic Information

TRAFFIC UPDATE: On Monday, May 25th, 2009 THE MEMORIAL DAY PARADE will take place. Staging for the parade will be on Genesee Street, North of Grand Avenue, at approximately 0800 hours. The parade is scheduled to “step off” at 10:30 am. The parade route will be as follows: S/B- N. Genesee Street from Julian St., to W/B Washington Street, to S/B West Street, to VETERANS PLAZA (West & Washington). A ceremony will immediately follow the parade at VETERANS PLAZA.

No Parking signs will be needed at the following locations for the stated hours: On West St. between Washington and Water, from 6:00 am to Noon. On Genesee St. between Julian and Washington, from 6:00 am to Noon.

TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT UPDATE: On June 1st, 2009 - City Sticker enforcement will begin. 2009 Waukegan City Stickers can be purchased at the Waukegan Police Dept or at any City of Waukegan Currency Exchange location. For further information please call the traffic Dept - (847) 599-2636, M-F 8am - 5pm

TRAFFIC UPDATE: On May 17, 2009 - 5K RUN WITH THE BULLDOGS: The Waukegan High School sophomore class will be holding a 5k run. Approximately 100 runners are expected to participate in this event which is a fundraiser for the sophomore class. The coordinator for this event is Jacalyn Roche, who can be reached at (847) 599-4070. This event will begin at 6:00am from the intersection of Grand Ave. and Sheridan Rd. and end at Sheridan Rd and Grand Ave. The runners will proceed northbound in the S/B lanes of the Amstutz. They will then head W/B on Greenwood Ave. (south side of the street) to Sheridan Rd. The runners will proceed south bound Sheridan Rd. on the east side of the street, utilizing the sidewalk where available. They will finish on Sheridan Rd. just north of Grand Ave. These lanes will be blocked off by City Yards using barricades and traffic cones. These barricades and cones should be in place the day of the race by 5:30am.

TRAFFIC UPDATE: On May 16th, 2009 - ANTI-POVERTY WALK: On Saturday May 16th 2009, COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERSHIP OF LAKE COUNTY will hold its Anti-Poverty walk and festival. The hours of the event are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The estimated attendance of this event is approximately 125 people. The event will start with a “Walk/Parade”. The walk will begin at 1200 Glen Flora. The walkers will travel N/B on the Bike Path to Golf Rd., E/B to Sheridan Rd., S/B on Sheridan Rd. to Glen Flora Ave., then W/B on Glen Flora back to the start point. After completion of the walk, participants will gather at Community Action for a family friendly celebration.

The Lake County Police Memorial is today, 5/8/09 at Noon. The ceremony will take place at the newly completed Lincoln Plaza (15 N M.L.K. Jr. Ave.). A 21 gun salute will take place during the ceremony.
